Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores a short while after the defender's first goal, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while Vicario made a succession of fine saves to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising the match official to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's side into third place in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

After a uninspiring midweek performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a only two shots on target, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his second in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to nod in.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defence, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in the team's winning streak at home will not be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of established strikers - had scored only one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having space and time to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs penalty area.

The Toffees: The team travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: Spurs travel to St James' Park on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup match against Newcastle.
